Blueberries Have Dr. Seuss Dress Up Day, St. Patricks Day Coin Hunt And Go Dinosaur Fossil Digging

What we learned…..

February was so good to us! It was a lovely month, we started off by having a petting zoo which the children enjoyed. The week after was Valentines Day which was a success. Presidents Day was nice and we focused on the colors red, white and blue. We finished the month by having our Community Helper a mom from the Kiwi class (big shout out to her!) She showed the children her doctor tools and the whole week we focused on the tools we need to care for our bodies.

PS: Thank you to all the parents for supporting the children by bringing in V-Day grams and a special thanks to the parents who came and helped on Valentines Day, we really appreciated it!

What we will be learning……

Now that it’s March we have more great activities. Please look at our weekly schedule for this month. We’ll also be sending friendly reminders as needed on brightwheel.

The first week of March is Read Across America Week for Dr. Seuss’s birthday. We’ll have a dress up day according to the theme of a book.

Monday: The Cat in the Hat- Wear a Hat

Tuesday: The Lorax- Wear a Mustache

Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday- Wear a wacky outfit &/or wacky hair Thursday: Fox in Socks- Wear your crazy socks

Friday: Green Eggs and Ham- Wear you favorite color

The second week of March we’ll focus on St. Patricks activities since it will fall on Tuesday, March 17th. That day we’ll have a Coin Hunt. There will be golden coins hidden all over and the children will be able to go and look for them. PS: Don’t forget to wear green!

The third week of march will be our Dino week. We’ll have some fossil digging and some dinosaur tracks activities.

The fourth week of March we’ll focus on Spring. We’ll have activities with nature objects such as flowers, bugs, pinecones and sticks.

As in every preschool classroom, these plans may evolve to better suit the interests of the children. We will be updating parents with pictures, videos, and write ups of what the children are learning and doing during the day. These will be posted to our Brightwheel app.

Upcoming Events

Crazy Dress Up Day

When: March 4th, 2020

St Patrick’s Day – Don’t forget to wear something GREEN!

We will also have a coin hunt for the children on 3/17.

Blueberry Parent Teacher Conference will be held on March 23rd.

Parent Teacher Conferences are only for 15 minutes.

Ms. Annie will send a message on brightwheel to allow parents to sign up.

PLAY will be CLOSED April 3rd – 10th

We will re-open on April 13th

Upcoming Birthday’s

If your child has an upcoming birthday and you would like to celebrate with a treat, we ask that you let us know in advance.

Please keep in mind that we celebrate around 11:15 am (during lunchtime). Friendly reminder that we are a nut-free school and we avoid frosting. Candles are welcome.

Reminders

We kindly ask that you are aware of any items your child may need added to or removed from their cubby. A few examples are extra sets of weather appropriate clothing, extra snacks, and most importantly, DIAPERS. We send courtesy messages through Brightwheel when they are running low, but sometimes they just disappear so fast!

If you plan on parking in the lot, we ask that you to please limit your stay to 10 minutes. Lingering in the lot makes it difficult for other parents trying to pick up/drop off their child on time.

I know saying goodbye can be hard, but you can do it and so can your child! Remember to keep a consistent routine throughout the year, prepare your child for your departure, validate their feelings, and remind them that you will be back.

We are a NUT-FREE school. We have a number of students in the school allergic to peanuts and tree nuts, in order to keep them safe we ask that you please do not send your child to school with any products containing nuts. If you would like a list of nut-free food suggestions let me know and I will get you a list!

And lastly, a personal request from us, please try to label all of your child’s items! Many families buy the same things and sometimes other students or teachers may move your child’s items mistakenly; labeling your things will greatly help avoid any mishaps!

Blueberries and Kiwi’s Learn About Farm Animal Physiology And The Meaning Of Friendship and Love

What we learned……

We enjoyed January by bringing in the new year, 2020 along with the Chinese New Year. Our students had fun making noise makers and decorations for our parade. It was fun making self portraits using different materials such as yarn, wiggle eyes, foam shapes and paper.  We talked about differences and similarities among ourselves as we learned about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We also had a dentist come in with a dinosaur puppet to help teach about the importance of brushing our teeth.

As in every preschool classroom, these plans may evolve to better suit the interests of the children. I will be updating parents with pictures, videos, and write ups of what the children are learning and doing during the day. These will be posted to our Brightwheel app.

What we will be learning……

During the month of February, we’ll focus on farm and farm animals, Valentine’s day, President’s day and our community helper the doctor. Please take a look at our calendar down below, along with the tab on our Brightwheel app for upcoming events.

During the first week of February, we’ll talk about what a farm is, the animals in a farm and crops. Some of the activities will include building fences with popsicle sticks, milking a cow (using a glove filled with milk), painting a vegetable garden and a sensory bin of shredded paper and possibly popcorn kernels. To further our learning, a petting zoo will come to our school on Wednesday, February 5th.

During the second week of February, our students will focus on Valentine’s day by learning about love and friendship.  We’ll also learn about the colors pink, purple by making cards for friends and family members.  On Friday, February 14th, we welcome parents to come to our classroom and volunteer to read a story along with help distribute valentine cards/ treats.  If you are interested please let us know.

*Side Note* If you are bringing valentine’s for the children, I encourage you not to personalize to whom the cards/ treats are for.  You may write your child’s name as for who it’s from, but not to who you are giving it to. This makes the distributing process much easier. We currently have 25 children in our combined Blueberry and Kiwi class.

The third week of February we’ll be closed on Monday, February 17th. We’ll continue that week to learn about Presidents and symbols of our country such as the colors, flag and the eagle.

On the last week of February we’ll learn about our community helper the doctor.  We’ll talk about our body, visiting the doctor’s office and the tools a doctor uses. We’ll have fun wearing gloves, using band aids on our dolls and  pretending to visit the doctor’s office.

A look ahead into March:

The first week of March we’ll have Read Across America event to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday by reading a different book each day and having silly dress up days. I’ll post the books and dress up days on our parent board and through Brightwheel once we get closer to March.

Potty Training

Please make sure to bring plenty of extra clothing. We highly recommend to bring at least 5 pairs of underwear, pants, extra socks and shoes.

Also, we encourage you to  bring pull-ups for nap time.

(side openings HIGHLY encouraged)

Each child is different and because of this, we’ll work with our families to get support at home through this journey.
