What we learned……
We enjoyed January by bringing in the new year, 2020 along with the Chinese New Year. Our students had fun making noise makers and decorations for our parade. It was fun making self portraits using different materials such as yarn, wiggle eyes, foam shapes and paper. We talked about differences and similarities among ourselves as we learned about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We also had a dentist come in with a dinosaur puppet to help teach about the importance of brushing our teeth.
As in every preschool classroom, these plans may evolve to better suit the interests of the children. I will be updating parents with pictures, videos, and write ups of what the children are learning and doing during the day. These will be posted to our Brightwheel app.
What we will be learning……
During the month of February, we’ll focus on farm and farm animals, Valentine’s day, President’s day and our community helper the doctor. Please take a look at our calendar down below, along with the tab on our Brightwheel app for upcoming events.
During the first week of February, we’ll talk about what a farm is, the animals in a farm and crops. Some of the activities will include building fences with popsicle sticks, milking a cow (using a glove filled with milk), painting a vegetable garden and a sensory bin of shredded paper and possibly popcorn kernels. To further our learning, a petting zoo will come to our school on Wednesday, February 5th.
During the second week of February, our students will focus on Valentine’s day by learning about love and friendship. We’ll also learn about the colors pink, purple by making cards for friends and family members. On Friday, February 14th, we welcome parents to come to our classroom and volunteer to read a story along with help distribute valentine cards/ treats. If you are interested please let us know.
*Side Note* If you are bringing valentine’s for the children, I encourage you not to personalize to whom the cards/ treats are for. You may write your child’s name as for who it’s from, but not to who you are giving it to. This makes the distributing process much easier. We currently have 25 children in our combined Blueberry and Kiwi class.
The third week of February we’ll be closed on Monday, February 17th. We’ll continue that week to learn about Presidents and symbols of our country such as the colors, flag and the eagle.
On the last week of February we’ll learn about our community helper the doctor. We’ll talk about our body, visiting the doctor’s office and the tools a doctor uses. We’ll have fun wearing gloves, using band aids on our dolls and pretending to visit the doctor’s office.
A look ahead into March:
The first week of March we’ll have Read Across America event to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday by reading a different book each day and having silly dress up days. I’ll post the books and dress up days on our parent board and through Brightwheel once we get closer to March.
Potty Training
Please make sure to bring plenty of extra clothing. We highly recommend to bring at least 5 pairs of underwear, pants, extra socks and shoes.
Also, we encourage you to bring pull-ups for nap time.
(side openings HIGHLY encouraged)
Each child is different and because of this, we’ll work with our families to get support at home through this journey.

Reminders
Cubbies and Lunch Boxes
– Please label all of your child’s things including sweaters, hats, sunscreens, lunch boxes and water bottles.
Parking Lot
– If you plan on parking in our lot, we ask that you please limit your stay to 10 minutes. Lingering in the lot makes it difficult for other parents trying to pick up their child on time.
Drop off
– I know saying goodbye can be hard, but you can do it and so can your child!! Remember to keep a consistent routine throughout the year, prepare your child for your departure, validate their feelings, and remind them that you will be back.
Upcoming Birthdays
If your child has an upcoming birthday, and you would like to bring a treat to share the celebration, please remember the following:
– We are a nut free school
– No frosting
– Treats are served towards the end of their lunch time, approximately around 11:15a.
– Notify the teachers in advance to let parents know in case, they would like to opt out due to allergies or other diet concerns.
