What we learned………..

We had such  a great beginning for 2020!

We focused on the recognition and phonetics of upper and lower case letters “Gg,” “Hh,” and “Ii.” We made giraffes, grapes, hearts, horses, igloos and ice-cream.

We focused on the recognition and value of numbers “6” and “7.” We made number lines from 0 to 7 with the value of each number. We learned counting songs and counted in American sign language.

We discovered the colors white and blue. We made collages and painted only with these colors. We also made blue and white name plates.

We continued with our Emergency Sign Language. This will give us the skills in order to help translate important information from non-hearing victims to emergency personal in an emergency.

In science, we continued learning about hibernation. We learned what hibernation means, some of the animals that hibernate and whether these are “true hibernators.”

We also learn about air and how air can move things. We learned that air takes up space. We experimented and made kites. We flew them and watched the air carry them. We had the best time!

We made snow by mixing baking soda and water. The mixture was cold to the touch and we were able to form it into different shapes. Some of us made snowmen!

In Social studies, we learned about Dr Martin Luther Kind Jr. This great American helped people to accept one another and to be kind. We each expressed our own dreams for everyone!

We also had a great parade and a special lunch with all of our friends! We celebrated Chinese New Year! We made Chinese hand drums.

We had a great month!

Reminders

– If you plan on parking in our lot, we ask that you please limit your stay to 10 minutes. Lingering in the lot makes it difficult for other parents trying to Pick Up/Drop Off their child on time.

– I know saying goodbye can be hard, but you can do it and so can your child!! Remember to keep a consistent routine throughout the year, prepare your child for your departure, validate their feelings, and remind them that you will be back.

– Show and Tell is every Friday! Encourage your child to bring in a special toy of their choice to share with the class. Show & Tell is great because it’s fun for the kids and simultaneously enhances effective communication, strengthens their vocabulary , improves their listening skills, and promotes self confidence.

– We are now NUT FREE! We have a number of students in the school allergic to peanuts and tree nuts, in order to keep them safe we ask that you please do not send your child to school with any products containing nuts. If you would like a list of nut-free food suggestions let me know and I will get you a list!

– And lastly, a personal request from myself, please try to label all of your child’s items! Many families buy the same things and sometimes other students or teachers may move your child’s items mistakenly; labeling your things will greatly help avoid any mishaps!

If you have any other questions about the parent handbook feel free to ask.
