Kiwi’s Learn About Ireland and St. Patricks Day. Make Dinosaur Tracks and Fossils. Celebrate Dr. Seuss’ Birthday By Reading His Books And Having Dress Up Day

I’d like to begin by saying thank you to all the helpful hands we had during our Valentine’s day celebration. Thank you for helping distribute the Valentine’s cards and treats! I’d also like to thank Mimi for being our guest doctor speaker and demonstrating to our students the importance of visiting the doctor as well as all her tools!

Our students enjoyed a month filled with fun farm activities, and being able to pet real farm animals. They also had fun making cards for friends and family members. They used the colors red, white and blue to learn about our country during President’s week. And finished off our month learning about doctors and the tools used to make sure our body is healthy.

As in every preschool classroom, these plans may evolve to better suit the interests of the children. I will be updating parents with pictures, videos, and write ups of what the children are learning and doing during the day. These will be posted to our Brightwheel app.

What we will be learning……

Welcome to March kiwi families!

During the first week of March, we’ll celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday by reading his books, doing activities relating to the books and having fun dress up days!

Monday  we’ll read The Cat in the Hat. Students may bring any hat for this dress up day.

Tuesday we’ll read The Lorax. We have sticky mustaches for students to put on that day, or you may get creative at home making your own mustache.

Wednesday well read Wacky Wednesday. Students are encouraged to dress in wacky clothes, colors, patterns and even a wacky hair do!

Thursday we’ll read Fox in Socks. Students may bring their crazy socks.

Friday we’ll read Green Eggs and Ham. Students can dress up in their favorite color.

On our second week of March, our students will learn about Ireland and St. Patrick’s day. By reading books and looking at pictures of the country, we’ll be able to learn some traditions and history. We’ll also make a flag to learn the colors green, white and orange. We’ll also continue learning about the color green by making St. Patrick’s day decorations. (We’ll have a coin hunt on March 17th in the playground).

The third week of March we’ll be focused on dinosaurs. We’ll make dinosaur tracks, fossil dough and learn shapes by putting them together to make their own dinosaur.

On our fourth week of March, our students will celebrate spring by germinating a bean seeds. We’ll also talk about what clothes we wear in the different seasons, the changes in nature and weather along with animal transformations.

During the last 2 days of March and beginning of April, we’ll transition into agriculture and learn about Cesar Chavez.

Potty Training

Please make sure to bring plenty of extra clothing. We highly recommend to bring at least 5 pairs of underwear, pants, extra socks and shoes.

Also, we encourage you to  bring pull-ups for nap time.

(side openings HIGHLY encouraged)

Each child is different and because of this, we’ll work with our families to get support at home through this journey.

Reminders

Cubbies and Lunch Boxes

– Please label all of your child’s things including sweaters, hats, sunscreens, lunch boxes and water bottles.

Parking Lot

– If you plan on parking in our lot, we ask that you please limit your stay to 10 minutes. Lingering in the lot makes it difficult for other parents trying to pick up their child on time.

Drop off

– I know saying goodbye can be hard, but you can do it and so can your child!! Remember to keep a consistent routine throughout the year, prepare your child for your departure, validate their feelings, and remind them that you will be back.

Upcoming Birthdays

If your child has an upcoming birthday, and you would like to bring a treat to share the celebration, please remember the following:

– We are a nut free school

– No frosting

– Treats are served towards the end of their lunch time, approximately around 11:15a.

– Notify the teachers in advance to let parents know in case, they would like to opt out due to allergies or other diet concerns.
