We had a fabulous month! We focused on friendships, being a good friend to all. Learning how to play and problem solve together. We helped one another to communicate our feelings and needs. We are all friends to each other, here at PLAY Preschool.
During the month of February, we discovered the phonics of upper and lower case Jj,Kk, and Ll. We made jellyfish and jellybeans for Jj, Kites and koalas for Kk, and ladybugs and lollipops for Ll. We continued learning the letters in our own names. We also learned about rhyming words.
We continued with our number lines while reviewing numbers 0 thru 7 and adding numbers 8 and 9. We each wrote the numbers 0 thru 9. It was fun!
We explored the wonderful world of shapes while making pictures with different shapes. We created master pieces with the colors of red, pink and purple. Our printing should be displayed in the LA County Museum of Art!
We had a visit from the farm! We petted rabbits, turtles, goats, lambs and the cutest pony. We learned how they live, what they eat and what some of these animals give us.
In history, we learned about George Washington, the first president of the US. Did you know that President Washington’s had wooden teeth and he didn’t ever smile because of the great pain he felt from these teeth? We learned about Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the US. President Lincoln fought to end slavery.
In science, we made carbon dioxide by combing baking soda and vinegar together. This gas filled up the balloon which was attached to a bottle. Did you know that carbon dioxide is used to make things colder, like dry ice?
In cooking, we made fruit kabobs for v-day with help of some of our parents. It was delicious! We also had a very special snack of crackers and herb dip. The herb dip was made sour cream and home grown herbs from our very own garden! Yum!
As in every preschool classroom, these plans may evolve to better suit the interests of the children. I will be updating parents with pictures, videos, and write ups of what the children are learning and doing during the day. These will be posted to our Brightwheel app.

We will be learning about St Patrick’s Day, what it is and why we celebrate it. Our crafts will center on this festive celebration making shamrocks, rainbows, leprechauns and much, much, more!

Reminders
– If you plan on parking in our lot, we ask that you please limit your stay to 10 minutes. Lingering in the lot makes it difficult for other parents trying to Pick Up/Drop Off their child on time.
– I know saying goodbye can be hard, but you can do it and so can your child!! Remember to keep a consistent routine throughout the year, prepare your child for your departure, validate their feelings, and remind them that you will be back.
– Show and Tell is every Friday! Encourage your child to bring in a special toy of their choice to share with the class. Show & Tell is great because it’s fun for the kids and simultaneously enhances effective communication, strengthens their vocabulary , improves their listening skills, and promotes self confidence.
– We are now NUT FREE! We have a number of students in the school allergic to peanuts and tree nuts, in order to keep them safe we ask that you please do not send your child to school with any products containing nuts. If you would like a list of nut-free food suggestions let me know and I will get you a list!
– And lastly, a personal request from myself, please try to label all of your child’s items! Many families buy the same things and sometimes other students or teachers may move your child’s items mistakenly; labeling your things will greatly help avoid any mishaps!
If you have any other questions about the parent handbook feel free to ask.
