Curriculum

Circle Time

During our circle time, we begin our class by singing a good morning song, counting how many kiwis came to school, the weather and days of the week. This is also when we introduce the activities as well as reviewing letters and numbers.

Curriculum

Week 1

We’ll begin the month by learning about Mexico.  We’ll locate it on the map, see some pictures, make the flag and some maracas.  The children will enjoy our Cinco de mayo celebration by breaking open a pinata on Monday, May 6th.

Week 2

The kiwis will continue the month by celebrating mother’s day!  We’ll be busy preparing for our Moms & Muffins on Friday, May 10th.  Please join us for a story or two, pictures and a craft activity with our Pewis. If you are interested in bringing your own book from home, please let me know.

Week 3

Transportation will be our focus for the week of 5/13-5/17. We’ll learn about different ways to get around such as cars, boats, airplanes, trains and bicycles.  By reading books and looking at pictures, our kiwis will learn about movement and distance. To further explore this theme, we’ll have a family meet up to Travel Town on Saturday, May 18th at 10am.

Week 4

On our 4th week of March, the Kiwis will learn about Reptiles.  We’ll have different sensory activities to help learn about reptiles. The kiwis will also have fun art and craft activities such as a tissue paper chameleon, a textured snake and a 3D turtle.

Week 5

Lastly, the kiwis will focus on  Memorial Day and Responsibility. The school will be closed on Monday, May 27th in observance of Memorial Day. We’ll read a short story about this Holiday and make a craft.  Then, we’ll continue to learn about responsibility by switching up monitors around the classroom.

Potty Training

Please make sure to bring plenty of extra clothing. We highly recommend to bring at least 5 pairs of underwear, pants, extra socks and shoes.

Also, we encourage you to  bring pull-ups for nap time.

(side openings HIGHLY encouraged)

Each child is different and because of this, we’ll work with our families to get support at home through this journey.

Hello Parents,

The week of May 6th-10th is Teacher Appreciation Week at PLAY The goal of the week is to give all families the chance to participate and show some love to the teachers who have worked so hard all year long. I invite you all to participate in one, two, three or every day, its totally up to you.

Below is a list of the daily themes for the week

Monday’s theme is “Teachers inspire creativity.” Families are invited to bring home made gifts showing their child’s creativity. You are welcome to bring in drawings, art projects or anything of the nature.

Tuesday’s theme is “Teachers help feed our children.” Parents are welcome to drop off something for the teachers to eat for breakfast or during their lunch break. You are also welcome to make something at home or bring in a favorite dish from a restaurant.

Wednesday’s theme is “Teachers help our children grow.” Families are invited to bring flowers, cut or potted.

Thursday’s theme is “Teachers touch our children lives.” Parents are welcome to donate/pool their money to send their teacher to a spa. (I would like to have a classroom parent lead this theme for the class. If you need emails please ask me).

Friday’s theme is “Teachers are a gift to our children lives.” Parents are invited to drop off gift cards in any amount to their teachers. If the classroom or certain parents are interested in pooling their funds together, I would like a classroom parent to help with this theme as well.

Please email me at annie@playpreschools.com (mailto:annie@playpreschools.com) and let me know if you are interested in leading a day or have any questions.

I thank you all for spending the year with us at PLAY and I look forward to the future together.

Best,

Reminders

Cubbies and Lunch Boxes

– Please label all of your kiwis things including sweaters, hats, sunscreens, lunch boxes and water bottles.

Parking Lot

– If you plan on parking in our lot, we ask that you please limit your stay to 10 minutes. Lingering in the lot makes it difficult for other parents trying to pick up their child on time.

Drop off

– I know saying goodbye can be hard, but you can do it and so can your child!! Remember to keep a consistent routine throughout the year, prepare your child for your departure, validate their feelings, and remind them that you will be back.

Hot Lunch

– Hot lunch will continue to be $8 when ordered in advance, however if ordered the day of or by the week it will be billed at $9.

Upcoming Birthdays

If your kiwi has an upcoming birthday, and you would like to bring a treat to share the celebration, please remember the following:

– We are a nut free school

– No frosting

– Treats are served towards the end of their lunch time, approximately around 11:15a.

– Notify the teachers in advance to let parents know in case, they would like to opt out due to allergies or other diet concerns.

Show & Tell on Fridays

Our Kiwis are encouraged to bring a special item on Fridays to share with our class.

(Your child is not obligated to bring a Show & Tell item every Friday) We do our Show & Tell during circle time at 9:30am. This gives our kiwis the opportunity to speak up and talk about something special to them.

Please make sure of the following:

– Must fit in our green treasure bin

– Please label name

– Will be shared with other children

– Pick up item at the end of the day. If not, it will go in your child’s cubby.
