Hello Parents!

This month is filled with eventful dates! Please check the information below!  Mother’s day is approaching and the strawberries will be creating thoughtful gifts. This will be given to you on May 10th for Moms and Muffins.  On this day, after the yummy muffins, you are welcome to join us in the classroom! You may volunteer to read a story, sing along with your child or present a special talent to the classroom. Hope to see you all there :).

As in every preschool classroom, these plans may evolve to better suit the interests of the children. I will be updating parents with pictures, videos, and write ups of what the children are learning and doing during the day. These will be posted to our Brightwheel app.

Classroom Time

We will start off learning about transportation, the strawberries will discuss how people get from one place to another on land, water and air. They will get the opportunity to create their own 3-D transportation of choice by using our recycled materials. We will also be creating our very own license plate! Using paper, tissue paper, water color and cut out letters. Many transportations aren’t able to run if it isn’t for mechanics fixing and improving it. We will be learning what a mechanic does and what tools they use.

We will have the opportunity to learn about Reptiles! They will begin to understand the different environments reptiles live in and interesting facts about them. Once completed, the children will be creating their own interpretation of chameleons, turtle/tortoise, and alligators through art.

We will be leaving Europe and taking a trip to Mexico! We will locate it on a map, we will learn their historic landmarks, tradition and culture. We will be learning about folk art from Mexico, which is and art form that express the artist’s emotions through bright and colorful designs. Many artists use these designs on pot, plates, metal etc. The strawberries are going to make their very own folk art called “metal tooling” using foil paper and paint.  We will be having a simplified explanation of Cinco de Mayo and will be creating a piñata made out of construction paper and tissue paper.

Lastly, the strawberries will discuss how important their moms are to them. As well as, appreciating everything they do for them. In honor of mother’s day, the strawberries will write a handwritten letter about what they love and appreciate about their mothers. They will be given to you in the classroom on Mom’s and muffins.

Academically, we will be focusing on identifying, sounding out, and writing Yy and Zz one letter a week. We will think up and create a list of words that start with that letter/sound, we will then begin our writing skills by practicing writing the letter and a corresponding word.

Hello Parents,

The week of May 6th-10th is Teacher Appreciation Week at PLAY The goal of the week is to give all families the chance to participate and show some love to the teachers who have worked so hard all year long. I invite you all to participate in one, two, three or every day, its totally up to you.

Below is a list of the daily themes for the week

Monday’s theme is “Teachers inspire creativity.” Families are invited to bring home made gifts showing their child’s creativity. You are welcome to bring in drawings, art projects or anything of the nature.

Tuesday’s theme is “Teachers help feed our children.” Parents are welcome to drop off something for the teachers to eat for breakfast or during their lunch break. You are also welcome to make something at home or bring in a favorite dish from a restaurant.

Wednesday’s theme is “Teachers help our children grow.” Families are invited to bring flowers, cut or potted.

Thursday’s theme is “Teachers touch our children lives.” Parents are welcome to donate/pool their money to send their teacher to a spa. (I would like to have a classroom parent lead this theme for the class. If you need emails please ask me).

Friday’s theme is “Teachers are a gift to our children lives.” Parents are invited to drop off gift cards in any amount to their teachers. If the classroom or certain parents are interested in pooling their funds together, I would like a classroom parent to help with this theme as well.

Please email me at annie@playpreschools.com (mailto:annie@playpreschools.com) and let me know if you are interested in leading a day or have any questions.

I thank you all for spending the year with us at PLAY and I look forward to the future together.

Best,

Annie

Reminders

– If you plan on parking in our lot, we ask that you please limit your stay to 10 minutes. Lingering in the lot makes it difficult for other parents trying to Pick Up/Drop Off their child on time.

– I know saying goodbye can be hard, but you can do it and so can your child!! Remember to keep a consistent routine throughout the year, prepare your child for your departure, validate their feelings, and remind them that you will be back.

– Hot lunch will continue to be $8 when ordered in advance, however if ordered the day of or by the week it will be billed at $9.

– Show and Tell is every Friday! Encourage your child to bring in a special toy of their choice to share with the class. Show & Tell is great because it’s fun for the kids and simultaneously enhances effective communication, strengthens their vocabulary , improves their listening skills, and promotes self confidence.

– Date Night is every other Saturday from 5:00pm-12:00am. $15/hr for an individual child or $20/hr for a pair of siblings (min. charge is $60). Dinner and a movie are also provided.

– We are now NUT FREE! We have a number of students in the school allergic to peanuts and tree nuts, in order to keep them safe we ask that you please do not send your child to school with any products containing nuts. If you would like a list of nut-free food suggestions let me know and I will get you a list!

– And lastly, a personal request from myself, please try to label all of your child’s items! Many families buy the same things and sometimes other students or teachers may move your child’s items mistakenly; labeling your things will greatly help avoid any mishaps!

If you have any other questions about the parent handbook feel free to ask myself, Gabriel, or Ms. Annie.
